Bock Water Heaters Inc. developed
and manufactures the patented Turboflue® Heat Exchanger,
a highly advanced heat transfer technology used in many of
the company's products. The cylindrically shaped Turboflue
features hundreds of steel Turbofins welded in a helical pattern
to the interior wall of the vertical flue tube. Turbofins
increase metal mass within the heat exchanger to maximize
heat conduction capacity and their helical placement induces
turbulence in the hot combustion gasses traveling through
the heat exchanger to maximize contact with metal surface
area. By its unique design, a Turboflue heat exchanger captures
heat that is vented out the chimney from a conventional flue
heat exchanger, thereby reducing energy waste and fuel consumption
while heating water faster.
The robotically built Turboflue heat exchanger is fabricated
from heavy-wall steel in multiple configurations ranging from
four-inches to sixteen-inches in diameter and containing from
600 to 1000 Turbofins. The performance capacity of Turboflue
technology and its multiple configurations make possible the
use of a single Turboflue in water heaters that normally require
many - perhaps a dozen or more conventional flue
heat exchangers. A water tank (within a water heating appliance)
built with a single, robust Turboflue is structurally much
stronger than a tank into which is welded numerous conventional
flues, thereby providing a more durable and longer-lasting
appliance.
